Hows it?
I currently have a network of 5 computers running fine. The problem I have is that I have just got an adsl connection. I want to know what type of external adsl modem/router I need so I can connect the modem to the switch and everyone can connect to the net. Thanx ![]() |

If you want to share out the ADSL modem without using a computer, you'll need a router. This router will have an ethernet socket which will connect to an ethernet modem. Both of these should be pretty easy and cheap to buy. If you've already got a switch in the network, this will probably no longer be needed, since your computers will probably be able to connect directly to the router. A switch itself cannot share the Internet, so you'll have to buy a router, unless you want to use one of your computers to share the Internet.

You may want to keep the swtich and plug the switch into the router. This way traffic between computers will be much faster than constantly accessing the router (unless it's a router with layer 3 switching or something).
