home network question
I have setup a home network with three PC's through a linksys router. Two of the PC's run win2k and the other runs win98. When I try to access the drives on the Win2K machines, I get the following message:
Enter Network Password. Connect As: Password: I'm still new to Networking and all the ins and outs of 2000. I tried using the username and password for each PC, but that didn't work. I can access the Win98 PC from both Win2K PC's with no problem. I assume it is probably something pretty simple, but alas, I can't figure it out. Can anyone help? Also, I have two printers. One is setup on the Win98 PC and the other is setup on a Win2K PC. I can share the printers, but is there a way to add the printer locally to each of the other PC's? Thanks in advance for any help! -Dman100- |

You need to enter the username and password for the win2k box.
Network printers are done in two ways: One, as a shared printer attached to a computer; Two, through a print server. When you use a print server you can add a printer as a local printer and then have it print to the print server or an IPP port. I'm pretty sure the only way to install the shared printers on another computer is as a networked printer. |

Thanks for the help. I got the printers setup now. Just typed in the appropriate path for each printer as a network printer and they are now available to each PC.
I'm still encountering a problem accessing the win2K PC with the Enter Network Password Connect As: Password: I got one of the win2K PC's accessed by connecting as administrator. Might the problem be with the other that I have no other users set to use the PC? Should I setup a user for each PC to access it? I don't know if that is what the problem is, but just thought about it. Also, when I browse network neighborhood on one of the win2K PC's, the win98 PC doesn't show up on LAN. I can do a search for the PC and it finds it without a problem, but just won't show up on Network Neighborhood. The other win2K PC shows all three PC's and the win98 PC shows all three PC's. Any idea why the last win2k doesn't show the win98 PC? Thanks again for your help. -Dman100- |

Problem solved. Had to create all the appropriate users on the Win2K PC's for security.

Make sure the stubborn 2K is set to restablish connections automatically, otherwise it'll wait till you try a connection.
