How do you disable a Router's Firewall?

My Router is the only way I can get internet access to all my computers, but unfortunatly it's a burden in some ways 1) Certain programs such as Bittorent download slower and 2) I cannot host games on certain games that I play, My computer's fine with zonealarm, Here are the stats on the back of the box, If there's anything else needed to know just say, but there isn't anything about Firewalls in the configuration settings.

Mentor ADSL Router 4 Ports.
-Data Connection-
.ANSI T1.413 Issue 2 /ITU-T G.922.1 (G.DMT): Downstream data rate up to 8mbps upstream data rate up to 1mbps
.ITU-T G.992.2 ( G.Lite ): Downstream data rate up to 1.5 mbps, upstream data rate up to 512kbps, Rate adaptive to modem at 32kbps steps. Connect distance : up to 18,000 feet on 26 AWG.

ATM Protocols
.Wan Mode support: PPP over ATM ( RFC 2364 ) and PPP Over Ethernet (RFC2516 )
.LAN mode support: Bridged /routed etherenet over ATM ( RFC 1483 ) and CLassical IP over ATM ( RFC 1577 )
.ATM Forum UNI 3.1/4.0 PVC
.Up to 8 VCs ( Virtual Circuits )
.ATM SAR ( Segmentation and Reassembly )
.ATM AAL5 ( Adaption Layer Type 5 )
.OAM F4/F5

Bridge Mode.
.Ethernet to ADSL self-learning Transparent Bridging ( IEE 802.1D )
.Supports up to 128 MAC learning addresses.

Router Mode.
.IP Routing-RIPv2
.DHCP ( Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol ) Server and client
.NAPT ) Network Address and Port Translation )
NAT ( Network address Translation )
.ICMP ( Internet Control Message Protocol )
.Simultaneous USB and Ethernet operation
.IGMP ( Internet Group Management Protocol )

Security
.User authentication for PPP
.PAP ( Password authentication Protocol )
.CHAP ( Challenge Authentication Protocol )
.Password protected system management

Ehternet Interface.
.Compatible with IEEE 802.3 standard
.4-Port Switch and 10/100 Mbps auto selection
.Supports Auto MDIX

USB Host Interface
.USB 1.1 Compatible
.USB Full Speed ( 12 Mbps )

HTTP Web-Based management
.Customizable Web pages
.WAN and LAN side connection statistics
.Configuation of static routes and Routing table.
.Configuration of NAT/NAPT
.Password protected access
.Selection of Bridge or Router mode
.PPP User ID and password
.Configuration of VCs ( Virtual Circuits )

I know that probably doesn't say much, so just tell me what needs to be know on how to disable it's firewall and I'll try my best to find it.

Thanks

I don't know if this is going to be supported by your router, but I use something called half-bridge mode. On my router, this effectively makes it only a modem for connecting to the Internet, and then I use software on a PC for things like a firewall.

Hmm, Doesn't seem to be anything about a half-bridge, But in the WAN configuration settings there's a " Bridge " option which is currently disabled.. yet I don't exactly know what that would do :-/, Anyone else got any ideas?

I'm guessing here (but as long as there is a reset button which resets to factory settings, then it's probably worth a try). When you enable bridge mode, the router simply becomes a modem and all router functionality disappears. You'd need to setup things like username and password in a connection on the computer. As I said, I'm not sure and have little experience with things like this, but I'd probably try the bridge mode.

Okay, Tried that.. and suddenly the internet ceases to work :-/, if Bridge turns it into a modem it would have worked because I already have my internet account / password etc put into it's config.. Oh well, any other ideas? I really need to get this damn thing to work how I want it.

Im not familiar with this router so I couldnt even tell you if it has a firewall. but to have all traffic forwarded unfiltered to your PC you should see an option to put the PC in a "DMZ".
Putting it in bridge mode basicly makes it like a modem and you would need to have a PPPoE client software on your PC or another router behind it to authenticate to get your IP.

By putting it in bridging mode and setting the PPPoE client on your PC you will bypass NAT/PAT and all firewalling on the router. There are issues with some games coming from behind a NATed network this may be your issue.

Hmm, okay attached are two screenshots of parts of the Config I find relevant to all this, if there's no way to disable it / forward the ports with my router can anyone suggest a GOOD but non-expensive router that can have it's firewall disabled easily so it just acts as a modem ( Which is all I want it for, a Modem for 3 computers, I never wanted a firewall built in because I have a software firewall anyway )

That router looks very similar to something I've used. Is there a "Misc Configuation" section in the left-hand side? Check in there and you may find an option for the DMZ.

Should do

You'll also find the options for the half-bridge mode at the bottom as well as the DMZ, but try the DMZ first.

Do you leave the DMZ host IP as 0.0.0.0 or put your IP in? if so there's a problem, whenever I change that my actual static IP changes, I tried it with 10.0.0.2 and it didn't seem ti work.. and yeah underneath it there's an option for a " PPP Half-Bridge ", Should I disable DMZ to enable half-bridge or doesn't it really matter?

On my one of these I make the following settings:

In WAN configuration select the adapter Pvc 0 and make sure that Bridge is enabled. Make the encapsulation PPPoE LLC. In the Misc Configuration, Enable the DMZ and set the host IP to 10.0.0.3 (that was the IP address of my computer). Set the IGMP Proxy to disabled, enable the PPP Half Bridge. In the NAT section set it to disabled. In the LAN section, set the User Mode to Single User.

Although I don't have the same named router as you, the web-admin is exactly the same, so I guess its the same underneath. This setup then allows me to by-pass firewall features of the router and just use a firewall installed on the pc.

HTH,

Edwin

if you set it up for bridging then your PC that will do the PPPoE authentication (as I maybe wrong but if bridging is enabled the router will not act as a PPPoE client anymore) will have to act as the router for the other PCs as well as NAT for them and will need ICS enabled as well as two NICs. Configuring the DMZ is what you want to do and you would put the private address of the host computer you would like the world to access in it. you should also have port forwarding options. why you would want a firewall on your PC apposed to one in the router is beyond me though.

Thanks Edmin, I'll try that out asap, and Juniperr, my first post says why I don't want the Router's firewall, because it's restricting a lot of things that Zonealarm doesn't, and I havn't a clue what ports they use I just got the router to give internet to 3 comps :-p

Btw when you said set it to " Single User " in the LAN... won't that stop the other 2 computers from using the internet?

Edit again : I don't see anything about a PCV 0. yet the Table at the top says Per CV settings.
