Hey all,
I'm curious as to how you would go about setting up your own ISP. Right now I have a RH9 box with a dsl internet connection, and i'm looking to setup that box so that I can connect remotely and possibly share the connection with a friend or something. Could anyone tell me how I would go about getting this done? Any pointers in the right direction would be much appreciated. Thanks, obi_wonton |

You need a fixed IP or a dynamic dns service, a registered domain name if you want to get to your site by name, a DNS service that handles your domain name or your own dns servers, and then just open your firewall to let http traffic through to your web server.
Don't neglect all the security patches for your system.

The simple way to setup your own ISP would be to get a remote access router with modem(s) (for dial up users) and Ethernet interface to your isp. setup RADIUS for authentication on your server and your done. (can get modem banks and routers on ebay) you would do this only if you wanted to host alot of people since you want to play with linux only follow this link on how to use a linux box to create a fully functional ISP on RH.

They dont use long distance numbers. Typically they have a local number for each zone they have their service in. Also, most ISP's claim that they are not responsible for long distance charges incurred in accessing their servers.
