Hypothetical file transfer question
Suppose I have 2 computers, each with 2 nics and I want to transfer a 10GB file from one machine to the other. Is there a way to split the traffic between the 2 nics to speed up the transfer? I would be trying to do this on two 2K Server machines, if that makes a difference. I don't see how this would be possible, but then again, I don't know everything.
Any thoughts? Chris

Honestly, I can't see it being possible.
That would be like having a computer with 2 NIC's running seperate broadband modems and getting double the speed. I don't think that the computer system would be able to transfer the data and be able to keep track of the file that it is transfering. By the end of the file transfer you would have 2 of the same files on the receiving computer... Once again, I don't know everything and if it is possible, I would love to know how to accomplish it. |

I'm not sure, so what I say below may be wrong
![]() I think you'd need to do two things to do what you want. Firstly, on both computers, you'd have to create a bridge between the two connections, so that the OS sees it as one connection. You'd need special software to do this though, as Windows 2000 doesn't include the easy bridge feature, which is built-in to XP/2003. Secondly, you'd need a special switch which would then allow you to configure two of the ports to act as just the one. You'd need to do this twice as well. I think that would get the result you're looking for, but I'm not sure. |

Yeah, maybe. Nut I agree, I don't think tit's possible. I'm going to research it and see if it is.

If you get anywhere with your research, it'd be good if you could post back. I'd be interested to know if you find out how to do it
