Just logon to the web-based config for the router, and you should see a section called port forwarding or similar. There shouldn't be too many pages there to search among.

yea thats about right. go to the web admin of the router. Every different type of server uses different port numbers for access to the Internet. The most common type is an HTTP (Web Server) on port 80. For example let's say the computer you wish to use as a web server has a local IP of 10.0.0.11, you'd need to set the router's 'Port forwarding' options to divert all Port 80 traffic to Server 10.0.0.11
What server (or game server) do you intend to run? |

External IP
After forwarding the ports on the router, how does the web server recognise the external IP ?
I'm running djbdns and i have the nameserver settings in there but it doesn't seem to do anything. Do I need to make changes to httpd.conf ? |

I goto whatsmyip.com.. and i get one that does not work for any of my friends to access the page i have hosted off my pc.. I dont know which part the port forwarding thing would be located into.. any help would totally rule. system, wan, lan, wireless, nat, firewall, ddns, upnp, tools is what i have acess to change System: time zone, password, remote management, zone alarm Wan: Dynamic Ip, pppoe, pptp, staic ip, bigpond, dns Lan: Lan Ip, Lan settings Wireless Nat: address mapping, Virtual Server, special application Firewall: Access control, mac filter, URL blocking, Schedule rule, intrustion detection, DMZ DDns: Dynamic DNS UPnP: ON/off Tools: configuration tools, firmware upgrade, reset |

It should be the Virtual Server section in NAT I think.

Virtual Server
You can configure the Wireless Barricade as a virtual server so that remote users accessing services such as the Web or FTP at your local site via public IP addresses can be automatically redirected to local servers configured with private IP addresses. In other words, depending on the requested service (TCP/UDP port number), the Wireless Barricade redirects the external service request to the appropriate server (located at another internal IP address). Private IP || Service Port || Type || Enabled || xx.xx.xx.xx || xx || udp/tcp/both || [] -check/uncheck || what next? |

You should be able to create a new rule on that page. For the private IP, enter the IP address of your computer (like 192.168.0.1). For the service port, use 80 if you're planning on running a website. For type, select Tcp. And then make sure that it is enabled.

Erm... I don't really understand what you mean. To start from the beginning: Your computer has two network adapters. One of these connects it to your router. This may be wireless or wired. It will have an address like 192.168.0.1, or perhaps 10.0.0.1. I can't tell you exactly, because you've hidden the address on the ipconfig details. Once you've found out this address, go to your router's web based admin. Then, create a new rule. For the private IP, enter the IP address of your computer (like 192.168.0.1 or 10.0.0.1). For the service port, use 80 if you're planning on running a website. For type, select Tcp. And then make sure that it is enabled. Then go to www.grc.com. Scroll down until you see Shields Up. Click the link and run the common ports test. Check that port 80 is open. As long as port 80 is open, go to www.whatismyip.com. This will tell you your external Ip address. People from outside your network should then use this address to access your server. From within your local network, you'll want to use the local IP address to access the server (such as 192.168.0.1). |
