ICS Client's won't browse internet

I'm about ready to put a boot through something. All of a sudden two days ago, my ICS client laptops(Both XP Home) stopped accessing the internet. They had be sharing an ADSL connection from my main desktop(Running XP Pro).

I uninstalled all three network adapters, reinstalled them, and used the Microsoft guide to set up the ICS clients. I can browse using the host PC, but neither client will. I've set them up exactly as they were before they stopped working, and I can see the Internet Gateway on both clients. I just can't access web pages. Can anyone give me any pointers to where I'm going wrong.

Are they all on the same subnet? Compare the ipconfig /all on each computer.

Can ping the gateway of the internet connection from the client, but can't ping past that. File sharing is not a problem between the computers, and they are both part of the same workgroup. Any help would be appreciated

Your computers are located on different subnets. Is their a DHCP server that is handing out IP address, gateway and DNS information?

Can you ping the DNS servers from the client machines? Have you tried using the gateway and dns servers from the host pc on the client machines?

Nope...I can ping the gateway of the internet connection, that's as far as I can get. I tried using the internet DNS servers, but that didn't work(and in hindsight, wouldn't anyway as it would put the client on a different subnet from the host)

I'm out of ideas...I've followed the instructions exactly, there are no conflicts anywhere....

Hmmm...I just noticed that it says NetBIOS over TCP/IP is disabled....but I know for a fact it's enabled. Could that be causing a problem???

I have had a lot of problem with Windows ICS in the past. It's terrible. You should download a proxy server. There are many free ones out there and here is a simple free one:

http://abpni.serverbox.org/downloads/proxyi.exe

An even better solution would be to get an ADSL router. Netgear do a really good one with a built in modem as most ADSL modems you get form your ISP are USB which router don't support.

The DNS server and gateway should be the same on both clients. The Host machine should be handing out IP addresses to machines that attempt to connect to the internet via its connection.
...
Just to see where you are you have:
An internect connection from pc1
Set up ICS on this PC and verified the IP address
Configured the client pc to obtain a dynamic IP address
Setup the home network
...
