ICS with XP for connection to playstation2 for online gaming?

I have XP pro, and i'm trying to setup ICS for use with my PS2 for online gaming. I connect to the internet through a USB modem (broadband with BT), I have a NIC for connection to the PS2. although seting up ICS through network setup wizard does not seem to work. I've noticed that the option to 'allow other network users to connect through this computer's internet connection' is not available when I go to Ethernet properties/advanced tab. I only have the ICF box and not the other two for ICS which should sit directly below that. I've tried searching for help on connecting this as well as calling BT,Sony and Microsoft tech helpline to no avail.(surprise! surpise!)...there is the option of getting a router as conn. speeds will not hamper gaming through that unlike the cheaper sharing option, I will have to look into that if I'm unable to sort this one out but that is going to take some time so would really appreciate help or ideas on ICS pls

Is the second NIC installed properly and working OK? You don't have a cable disconnected message with it? Make sure you're using a crossover cable if you're connecting directly to the PS2.

I do have the cable disconnected message actually, but the NIC is installed correctly. I connect to the net with an ext. modem through the usb port. so I only have one NIc in my pc, which i am trying to connect to the ps2 box. how would i find out if my cable is crossover? It is the one that actually came with the ps2 network adapter. (maybe it is straight cat5 as they may have intended it to go thru a router u think?) how can i test it?? what about the options for ics in the advanced tab of NIc properties? any ideas on why mine does not show ICS and only shows ICF? thanks for your help with this. it looks like everyone else is avoiding this one!!

Well, I would guess the cable you have is probably a straight through one. The easiest way to test is to try it in another network which you know is working, but it's probably quicker just to buy a crossover cable because they're not too expensive.

ICS.. weird setup

I've got my ICS setup a little weird.

First off, I have a wireless G router that my laptop connects to wirelessly, I then have that connection shared using ICS, which then my ps2 is connected to the physical ethernet port on my laptop. So in other words, it comes from my router, to my computer, then from my computer to my ps2 using a crossover cable. The only problem is that, I can't connect to the server fully. It will run through the DNAS server, which works fine, but then shortly there after.. the playstation freezes. I find it to be very odd, but maybe theres settings I've over looked? if anyone could help clarify this, I'd appreciate that.

Oh and before anyone mentions this, I can't just run a wire, because of where my router sits and where my ps2 sits.

Thanks

Wouldn't it be better to create a bridge between the wireless and wired connections on the laptop? As long as you've got XP, you should just be able to right-click in network connections and you'll see an option to create a bridge.

well, I guess it wasn't as easy as I thought, well, when I create the bridge between my wired and wireless connections, all they say is Not Connected, for either devices, even though it lists my wireless SSID and I connect to it, it still says disconnected, and my wired ethernet port has a wire in it, which is connected to a hub, so I know its connected, but that also says disconnected also. But when I remove them from the bridge, they're suddenly connected.. How do i fix this problem?

I'm not sure. Do you have any other network adapters on that computer? Make sure that they aren't being used in the bridge.
