IExplorer Settings
Is there anyway that I can make all my clients IE settings greyed out so that they cannot change any settings and meddle with it. Is it possible.?
or atleast grey out the proxy server settings so that they cannot change the proxy server IP address. MP |

What OS are you using? If you're using XP or 2000 you can use group policy. Click Start, Run and type gpedit.msc. There's loads of options in there for preventing changes to the proxy settings etc. By default this applies to everyone, but you can (with a bit of difficultly) get it to apply to everyone apart from one user. You can do it much easier on a domain environment.
If you're not using XP or 2000 then you could use poledit. I'm not sure though exactly what options this has. |

I tried that option. I have XP Pro. I logged in as admin and in gpedit.msc I entered the proxy settings.
I logged out and logged in as a user and the settings are not greyed out. I can easily change settings. I guess I am missing something here. We have a domain controller w2k server. Could you explain me both of the steps i.e in a a domain environment and as well as in a an individual machine. |

in the Group Policy you not only need to set the proxy settings, but you also need to find the settings to prevent users changing them. I'm sure there's an option disable changing of settings etc.
If you want the group policy to apply to all but one user in a non-domain environment look at this thread: http://forums.devshed.com/t129803/s.html (it's at the bottom). In a domain environment, select an organisational unit and open the properties. Click the Group Policy tab from where you can create a new group policy and set the settings. If you don't want it to apply to everyone, you need to change the security settings and not set apply settings to everyone. |
