Sign up for a fixed IP with your isp
Or use a service like zoneedit to provide dynamic dns for your changing IP

What you want to do is use a dynamic DNS service. ZoneEdit is a web-based company which offers you name servers. In a situation with static IP addresses, you can configure your domain name (such as www.domain.com) with them and they will then offer the facilities to forward it to the static IP address of your server.
However, they also offer a dynamic service. Check out http://www.zoneedit.com/doc/faq.html#faq20 for details. Basically, you need to buy a domain name and configure it with them. Then, you'll have some sort of script on the computer which runs every time the IP address changes and tells ZoneEdit about this change. That way, you'll always be able to access your computer using the domain name. |

DYNDNS.org is another Dynamic DNS provider that offers up to 5 hostnames for free.
If you do this and decide to let your router do the updates be aware that many home routers haven't quite figured out how to implement the updates correctly. |

IP Static or Dynamic
I don't believe that even with a static IP address you will last very long if you are getting many hits on your site. This is due to the fact that unless you have an account that is paying for that BW your ISP will shut you down.
I hope not and good luck ![]() |
