You can't join a Windows 98 computer to an Active Directory domain, so what exactly do you mean when you say that it works with the administrator account. You must use Windows 2000 Pro or Windows XP Pro to connect to a domain.
However, some things you may want to check on the server. Open up the Domain Controller Security Policy from the Administrative Tools. Open up Local Policies, User Rights Assignment and check that the Access this computer from the network is set to include Everyone. |

But your Windows 98 computer cannot be part of a Windows 2003 domain! To be able to logon to the domain using domain accounts, you must be using either 2000 Pro or XP Pro, not 98. When you boot up the 98 computer, you cannot get a Welcome to Windows dialog box, asking you to press Ctrl-Alt-Del. You don't get a drop-down list to select your domain name either. |

Exactly it doesn't show the welcome message or a drop-down but by default my domain name is listed in the logon box below the password spot!!

Windows 98 has well no security and yes a user can log into a windows (2000 and NT4 ) domain with it but the computer itself does not join the domain. This is actualy kind of poor security on microsofts behalf. when you join a domain with 2k or xp the computer must join the domain but with 98 anyone can just login to the domain ( the computer does not need to be registered) as long as their is an account for the user.
So if you ever wanted to brute force a windows domain you never been on use a 98 PC and run brute force although lOpht is much easier hehe. On windows 2003 domains Microsoft decided to stop this by enabling SMB signing which is not enabled on win 95/98. Here is the tech document from microsoft on how to enable authentication to 2003 domain on 98 machines... http://support.microsoft.com/defaul...kb;en-us;555038 A work around for 95 and NT4 pre SP2 which does not support SMB signing just turn off SMB signing on the server. hehe And heres how.. http://support.microsoft.com/defaul...=1&PA=1&SD=HSCH Last edited by juniperr : February 27th, 2004 at 08:26 AM. |
