LAN Network game connect problem

I have a Linksys WRT54GS connecting an HP 9860C (WIN 98SE2) and a Dell D-800 Laptop (WIN XP). They both communicate fine with the exception of gaming. It appears there is a firewall issue (per the 3DO Armymen instruction text file). The join computer (HP) recognizes the Host computer (Dell) but errors with "Error Message: Session join failed". Any help would make my son (and me0 happy.
