Have you configured the new wireless computer correctly:
Set the workgroup to the same as the wired network. Install and configure TCP/IP. You'll probably need something like this: IP: 192.168.0.x subnet: 255.255.255.0 Can you ping from one computer to the other? Is there any firewall software running? Go to http://www.dlink.com/products/suppo...ckInstallGuides and download the Quick Install Guide to set up the Access Point. This tells you how you need to configure it to enable networking. Setting all of these settings correctly should enable you to network between the two computers. If it doesn't work, and you have XP, why don't you try running the XP network setup wizard (Start > All Programs > Accessories > Communications > Network Setup Wizard). HTH, Edwin |

well i think i have configured the wirelss puter correctly, although i have set it to auto for the ip address as none of the computers on my betwork have static ip's.
no i cant ping anything. I had Zone alarm runningon it but that has been turned offf and i have turned it off on abother computer on the network but still no luck pinging anything.... ![]() I have followed the steps in the Quick guide but .... also on page 7 of the guide it shows the dlink air manager auto detecting the wireless AP but it doesnt yet the laptop is apparently connected to the wireless ap it has got the SSID and it says good strength !! arrrrrrrgh i have also now tried setting up the net the on WORKGROUP like the others.. but to no avail. When i open the my net places it just shows the laptop. In the hub it is just plugged into a norm,al port, it shouldnt be in the uplink or anything should it, i have tried it but it doesnt seem to work but if i could be told for sure that would be another step!! Anything else i could do !!!???? Thanks |

Click Start, Run and type "ipconfig /all > C:\ipconfig.txt" (without the quotes) from the wireless laptop. Then, copy the contents of ipconfig.txt into your next post.

You wireless laptop has been given the Ip address 169.254.123.204 and 169.254.27.124. This is part of the default private networking range which Windows assigns sometimes to itself. If you want to ping the other computers, they will have to have similar IP addresses. On another computer, run ipconfig /all from the command line, and check if the Ip address is like 169.254.xxx.xxx. If it is, then there is another problem. If it isn't, then you probably can't ping because the IP addresses are set up incorrectly.
On each computer, I would statically assign IP addresses. The most common range is 192.168.0.x. Start with something like 192.168.0.5 and increase the last digit by one for each computer. Set the subnet mask always to 255.255.255.0. Once you have statically assigned IP addresses to each computer, you should be able to ping, assuming that you have set up with wireless access point OK. |

You seem to have a modem plugged into the server which you want to share. In Network Connections or Network and Dial up Connections in the Control Panel on the server, right-click your Internet connection and select Properties. On the Advanced tab, enable Internet Connection Sharing.
On the other computers, in order to access the Internet, you need to enter in the IP address of the computer with the modem in the default gateway. So, if the computer is running with IP address 192.168.0.1 enter this in the default gateway field in the other computers. You should then be able to access the Internet. If you can't access pages like www.google.com from your other computers, does it work from the computer with the Internet connection. Also, can you access http://216.239.59.104 from any computers? |
