Machine shows up in Search, but not My Network Places
I have a mac and pc laptop connected together using Dave via router. Had to get a new router so updating LAN settings.
When I try and find the mac in "My Network Places-->Computers Near Me" on the pc, I get nothing. It can't find it. But when I do "Search-->Computers" it shows up, and I can put a shortcut to the networked mac on the desktop to use. Just wondering why it is not showing up in My Network Places? How does looking for the machine here differ to doing a search to find it (which works)?

Here's a similar problem with some tips that may help, although the original person who asked the question wasn't able to get his problem solved.

I fixed it. In case anyone else has this problem, this is how:
In the Network Adapter-->TCP/IP Properties-->WINS tab--> clicked Disable NetBIOS over TCP/IP........which seems wrong/the opposite of what should be clicked ( I thought it was *using* NetBIOS) but it worked anyway, the networked machine showed up in My Network Places. |
