OK - they certainly look better.
 Now can you try pinging between each computer. Open a command or dos prompt and type "ping 192.168.0.x" (without the quotes) replacing x with 1 then 2. Check that you can ping the other computer from both computers.

the pc with xp can ping to both, and the pc with win 98 only can piong to .0.2

The 98 also needs to be able to ping 192.168.0.1 - the address of the XP computer. The most probable reason for this is the presence of a firewall. Check that no firewall is enabled on the XP computer (like ZoneAlarm for instance) and make sure that this is disabled or configured for home networking. Also, Windows XP includes a built-in firewall which should be disabled. Open up Network Connections from the Control Panel and right-click the network connection. Select Properties and click the Advanced tab. Make sure that Internet Connection Firewall is disabled.
