Need Help With Hosting Behind Wireless ADSL Router
I've tried searching, but to be honest I'm not really sure what I should be doing to make it work
![]() I recently aquired a SpeedTouch 570 Wireless ADSL Router. We have 4 machines on the network, and they all access the internet and each other as they should. Before this I could host files on the main computer/server, since this was the computer that was connecting to the internet, however, now the router is... I setup an FTP server, which as far as I can tell works, I can access it on my own computer and accross my network using my network IP, however, I'm unsure how to setup my router so I can "forward" people to my computer directly. I can ping my internet IP and network IP and get a reply, so I don't think there's any technical problems, I'm just unsure how to set it up, the manuals are no help either, since while I'm quite experienced with computers, I know nothing about networking. This is from nslookup: > 10.0.0.2 Server: UnKnown Address: 10.0.0.138 Name: HyperDawn.lan Address: 10.0.0.2 > 217.44.xxx.xxx Server: UnKnown Address: 10.0.0.138 Name: SpeedTouch.lan Address: 217.44.xxx.xxx And this is from ipconfig: Windows 2000 IP Configuration Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : HyperDawn Primary DNS Suffix . . . . . . . : Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Mixed IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : No WINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . . . . : No DNS Suffix Search List. . . . . . : lan Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection 3: Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : lan Description . . . . . . . . . . . : 802.11b WLAN PCI Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-08-A1-6E-7A-A3 DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 10.0.0.2 Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.0.0.0 Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 10.0.0.138 DHCP Server . . . . . . . . . . . : 10.0.0.138 DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 10.0.0.138 Lease Obtained. . . . . . . . . . : 14 September 2004 17:39:29 Lease Expires . . . . . . . . . . : 14 September 2004 19:39:29 Also I've attached an image of the router admin page, I think the page I'm on is the correct one? I've tried putting in what I thought would be correct to get it working, but there's obviously something I don't know! ![]() Any help is much appreciated! |

If you're setting up an FTP server, you'll need port 21 open, as well as ports above 10000. The exact numbers you'll want open depend on the number of clients connecting, but opening 10000-10030 should be fine.
Looking at the screenshot, you need to click the "New" button. Create rules to open up these ports, then run the tests at www.grc.com to make sure that these ports are actually open. |
