Netgear :-(
My company decided to use Netgear FVS318 routers with our products. Since then it has been one huge CF. Here are the problems encountered to date, that might influence your choice.
1. Tech Support insisted that I register the product before they would help. Old stupid me didn't write down the serial number of the product I had installed 3000 miles away. Too bad for me. Ended up getting one out of stock(oh yeah we bought over 50 the first time) and used it's serial number. 2. Started receiving abuse email from DYNDNS.org because the router was sending updates every two seconds. 3. We have a problem with the DHCP table getting full and not assigning new addresses. My first experiment lasted a week and the table was still full with a device trying to obtain a new lease. Running a new experiment to see how long this goes on. 4. Have a problem when the service provider changes IP addresses and the router has to be rebooted to find it. Not sure if this is Netgear or not, but we seem to have the problem with a long list of ISP's. 5. DDNS on the router does not work at all with the Custom Service offered by DYNDNS.org. DYNDNS.org has been extremely helpful throughout our trials and tribulations. |

Update - Netgear Tech Support sent me the following: "...the fact that the unit designed more in the mind for a home consumer rather then a business." This seems odd because if you navigate through the Netgear Web site you find the FVS318 in the for Office / Routers / Firewall VPS section.
We have another DHCP failure in the FVS318. For some reason the router stops answering DHCP request till you reboot it. BTW - Netgear has informed me that there is not a problem with the DHCP server in the FVS318. |

Update - I sent one last plea for help to Netgear, cc'ing the CEO and CTO. The CTO called and emailed me to inform me that they are looking at my DHCP problem. He also said that Netgear may allow the DHCP lease time to be controlled.
