Netgear/Port Forwarding/Yahoo Webcam
Recently my cable company installed a Netgear Router CG814 for wireless. I can access Yahoo Messenger, but not Yahoo Webcam for viewing others cams. I know I need to configure Port Forwarding in the Netgear router. Acc/ to Yahoo, I need to set up an ip address of 127.0.0.1, with a external and internal IP address numbers 5100. How do I configure Port Forwarding in the Router(I know how to access; I just don't know what numbers to put in) and then how do I configure my desktop(running Windows XP). I can ping127.0.01 in the current configuration.

Your router will have two IP addresses as you said, one will be an Internet one and the other one will be a internal private one (something like 192.168.0.1). Your computer connected to the router will also have an internal IP address, probably something like 192.168.0.2. The 127.0.0.1 is the loopback address which means that when you ping that, it just pings back to your own computer. It should also have a proper IP address.
To find the IP address of your computer, click Start, Run and type cmd. In the Command Prompt type ipconfig. There should be an "IP Address" section where you should be able to see your IP address. Once you've got that, go to the web based setup for your router. Setup port forwarding so that all requests on port 5100 (you may want to check this) are forwarded to your computer's internal IP address. |
