netoworking computers with xp
is it just me or is networking computers in xp painfully difficult. in windows 2000 everything works nicely, but not in xp. Yes I have tried the network wizard, and that doesn't work at all.
I should add that the computers are both hooked up through a router. Thanks for the help. |

Check that the IP addresses are set correctly (on the same subnet like 192.168.0.x), the subnet mask is set to 255.255.255.0, and that all firewalls are disabled. Windows XP includes a built-in Internet Connection Firewall which needs to be disabled on the local network connection. |

Make sure that you are using patch cables and not crossover cables...Also make sure that the drives are shared.
By default, the Network Wizard should add File and Printer sharing but that might be something else that you would want to check.. Hope this helps. |
