Is there some way to remove the network identification.
I assigned a name (the default HET) but now i would like to remove it. reinstalling tcp/ip did'nt work and checking on the net , i foud out that i had to change the registry keys. I dont know how to configure the registry keys and also is there any simple way other than this to remove network identification |

What do you mean by network identification? If you open the System Properties from the Control Panel and click the Computer Name tab, can't you change everything from there?

To clean it out of the registry use regclean or regvac if you are not familiar with regedit, and yes you are correct when renaming a computer it will leave instances of that old name in the registry and will need manualy cleaned.

i even tried regvac but it does'nt help coz im unable to access the net with the identification changed. if i put on my previous name, it is working as usual.

what is it you are trying to do? renaming the computer should have nothing to do with internet access unless your ISP or network admin is using that as an authentication method. Is this the case and you are trying to get around it?

that's not it. i gave a 'blank space' instead of no name and it worked. thank u however for the 'regedit'.

sorry guys, i thought the problem was out, but it aint. when i use the cmd ipconfig/all to view my details ,there is no hostname because i edited that with regedit. But when i go into network set up wizard or try seeing my ip address and mac using other softwares, i get my default name again.
Though there is no name in the NVHOSTNAME in regedit, the name HET is still present. Should i need to edit more keys.(i edited NVHOSTNAME,NAMESERVER,DOMAIN) |
