I have a network at home. Running w2k3 server with an XP workstation.
I can go on the server and ping my workstation by netbios name (clarke) and by the FQDN (clarke.grahamthompson.com). But here is the kicker.. I can't connect to my workstation using MMC remotly.. even tho I try.... i click other computer, browse, type c then check names.. it resolves to Clarke. As soon as I click OK it says the network path cannot be found and then cacks out... ALso I go into my network places and my workstaton is not there either.. What gives?? Please help ::Edited to change network neighbourhood to my network places |

Perhaps it's some sort of authentication problem. Do you have accounts on both computers with the same username/password?

OKay here is the scoop.. I've added my domain admins to my local administrators group for the workstation.. This should give domain admins rights on the local box.. I can log into the workstation as part of the domain using the domain admins. Authentication takes place... This is all fine and dandy. But when ever I go and try to map to a share on teh box or connect to the box from the server its telling me that the network cannot be found.. yet it resolves the name.. it pings fine... etc etc.. I'm just not wraping my brain around this one.
Am I missing something fundamental here? ![]() |

Can you access the networked computer by typing \\computername\sharename into the address bar?
