Hi!
I have two Pc's with Windows XP on both. on pc1 i have the internetsharing to pc2, they are connected with an ordinary TP cable... On pc2 i have Apache webserver and i want other computers to see my homepage on my webserver, how is that possible? I understand it has something to do with portforwarding, but how? i have no-ip software, but where should i install it, on pc1 or pc2? Thanks for help! |

moved to networking...
On PC 1 you need to install the no-ip software. Persumably you've got some form of firewall software on that computer. You need to configure the firewall to allow incoming requests on port 80 (required for the web server) to be forwarded to your internal computer. The no-ip software must be installed on the computer with the Internet connection so that it can detect when the IP address changes. |

Thanks!
![]() I have zonealarm on both computers, is this unnecessary? Anyone knows how to forward in zonealarm? Any specific settings in no-ip? |

Zonealarm is only really necessary on the machine which is connected to the Internet. I personally wouldn't bother installing it on the second computer as well. But, if you do have it on the second computer make sure that it is configured for home networking.
I don't use Zonealarm myself so I don't know if there is an option to configure port forwarding, and if there is, I don't know where to find it. You'll have to look around, and see if it mentions anything in the help. Again, I don't use no-ip either, so I would guess you just go to their website and follow the basic instructions. |

OK - sounds like a good idea to me.
You may find (especially if you're using the free version) that you can't setup port forwarding at all, and you may need to invest in something better to be able to host your own servers. |

Thanks again!
So I noticed... Can you tell me any program for Windows XP that is able to forward ports? |

Something like the built-in Windows XP ICF can do port fowarding, but I think I'd suggest buying a router. Most routers come with the ability to setup port forwarding and they're very easy to configure. They're also quite cheap, and should be fine as long as you are using broadband (rather than dial-up). Besides, if you're using dial-up, it's not really sensible to host servers at home anyway.
