Networking
I work for harris county and at the office that we are at ev1 connects to the pct3 domain. I have a labtop that has windows nt on it.I want to be able to take this labtop anywere within harris county and connect to the internet using there network. The labtop is configured with an ip and gateway, dns, wins all that stuff to my home office. Ev1 esle within harris county logs onto harris county domain. I can access the internet at my home office just by logging on as an administrator to the computer and not the actual domain. My network cable is connected to my computer. When i took the labtop to a community center i logged on as admin to the computer and could not connect to the internet. The network cable was plugged in as well there. How can i make it to were i can connect to the internet at any harris county place without haveing to change any ip or gateway b/c the user will not know how to do that. Is this possible any help with this issue would be greatly appreciated.

You laptop will need to be configured as a DHCP client. That way when the laptop is placed on a new network it will query the DHCP server for all the necessary information it needs. This will also mean that you will either have to have a DHCP server at your home office, setup your information each time or operate with two network cards, one for home and one for remote locations.

Do you have a router that is directly connected to your cable or DSL line? In your situation I think it may be easier to run two network cards.

If you have a USB port you can get a usb adapter.

This software will allow you to switch between network configs. On NT 4 I have never used it myself. |
