networking 2 computers
Hi. I'm trying to simply connect 2 computers to share files and internet access. I'm wondering if I need more than just the CAT5e network cable because it's not working.
One runs Windows XP and the network card is "Intel (R) PRO/100 VE Network Connection" and the other machine runs Windows 2000 and has a "Intel 82558-based Integrated Ethernet with Wake on LAN". Just wondering if I have the correct hardware. Also wondering why both computers say "Network Cable Unplugged" when the cable is plugged into both of them. Thanks Guys, Joe |

If you are only connecting two computers through each others NICs, then you need a crossover cable instead of the standard ethernet cat5.
