Networking 2 PCs both XP Pro TRYING AGAIN

Networking 2 PCs both XP Pro , Trying hook up LAN to play games , Not sharing internet it dialup.I hook up network 1 time ,Year ago and love it .Loss it reinstalling OS .
Tried 3 or 4 time to get it up and running .NO LUCK.
TRYING IT AGAIN .

Packets:
PC 1 MSHOME Sent 750 and received 350, on board NIC
PC 2 MSHOME Sent 750 and received 0 netgear pci card
Netgear EN104 Ethernet Hub
MSHOME shows just me in pc1 .PC 2 show just her .
But not in a MShome group
If im the administrator of PC1
If she (Girlfriend) is the administrator of PC2
This not right

Sounds like a bad cable/nic/or hub. Swap the cable from the other machine. Switch ports on the hub.

My computer are 5ft a part. I have 25ft of cable on both pc.Dose this matter?Do you think a crossover cable would be better for Me? Network is For gaming only
