I know nothing about networking. I want to network my computer (Windows XP) to my wife's (Windows ME). I know from reading online that I only need a crossover cable to do this, since it is only two computers. The thing is, I have a cable modem (road runner) on my computer which we would like to share so we both can go on the internet, but it takes up the ethernet port on my PC. What would I need to hook up our two computers to both share the internet and network?

The computer connected to the Internet needs two NICs - one to connect to the modem and the other to connect via crossover cable to the second computer. The other computer only needs the one NIC.
Once you've got that, you should be easily able to setup Internet Connection Sharing on the Internet connection and establish a network between the two computers. |
