Networking Linux and WinXP

Hi guys, need some help here..

I have two boxes, one running RH8 (Main) and WinXP(client). I have a cable connection to my RH8 box, and I want to share it with my WinXP box.

The problem now is, I seem to have set up everything nicely, but my WinXP box still has no internet access. The funny thing is, both boxes can "see" each other (pinging each other's IP addresses works). Hope you guys can help.

Here are my RH box's network devices:

eth0 - Home LAN
eth1 - Internet

I set my RH box to have an IP of 192.168.0.1, and also ran the command "iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -o eth0 -j MASQUERADE" as root.

I also set my WinXP to have an IP of 192.168.0.2, subnet mask 255.255.255.0, and with DNS addresses of my ISP (this i checked with "Network Device Control" on my RH box, not too sure if they *are* my proper DNS addresses).

Thanks in advance!

I got a similar prob

I have a similiar prob but it is in reverse. My XP and RH8 is connected to a router connected to the Cable modem. I'm able to connect to the internet with my XP but not with my RH8. They are however able to recignize each other's IP. What do I need to do to get my RH8 to connect to the internet.

p.s. I was running RH7.3 previously and it worked fine. The problem didn't appear until i installed RH8. I believe the problem maybe linked to having RH7.3 previously set as a workstation and the upgrade to RH8 is now being set as server.

Smile iptables

May I know when you boot linux your eth0 is reported OK
or failure?

I use eth0 to internet and eth1 as lan, but eth1 reported
failed because can determined the IP ?

I connect it to a win98, with similar setup with you.

How to set 192.168.0.1 in RH8 ?

Use these settings

I am running windows XP with a DSL internet connection and rh8 as the client
it is working perfectly.....

On my main box the settings are as follows

Internet Card....
Obtain IP & DNS automaticly
and in Advanced tab

"Allow other network users to connect through this computers internet connection" is checked.

on LAN card
IP address is 192.168.0.1
Subnet is 255.255.255.0

On LINUX box...
on ETH0
ip address is 192.168.0.254
(You should be able to change this to whatever you want...)
Gateway is 192.168.0.1
DNS is NOT isp's address, instead it is 192.168.0.1
(Same as hosts)

As i said before, this is working perfectly for me.
