Networking two drives, same computer?
Is it possible to have two drives (or two partitions on the same drive) on the same computer networked? I have a WinXP laptop, but I'd like to set up a LAMP (Linux/Apache/MySQL/PHP) server for development work.
I know I can run Apache/MySQL/PHP on WinXP - I already have that set up - but for a variety of reasons I'd like to also run a Linux server as a testbed for web applications that I could access throughout my LAN. I know I can run a separate box with Linux, but I'd really prefer to run it either from a second hard drive on my Windows laptop, or as a partition on the main hard drive. Is this even possible? Ideally I like to be able to access my development server setup over my network connection - not having to log off WinXP and log onto my Linux drive. Suggestions anyone? |

Hi,
I don't think this is possible. To access stuff from the linux machine it would have to be booted up, requiring you to log off from Win XP. HTH, Edwin |

Aren't you really asking if you could run two OS's, XP and Unix, on the same cpu at the same time?
If you phrase the question that way the answer is obvious. Networking implies a minimum of two machines. BUT here is a software product called VMware. This might accomplish what you desire. Web search will provide the sites link. |
