Netwroking help with 2 NIC cards in one pc...
I dunno if anyone has this kind of setup but here is my setup:
I have two PC's running Windows XP Pro. The first PC has 2 NIC cards (one built in Motherboard the other add on NIC card). One of the NIC cards is conneted to a router, while the other is connected to outside ethernet line (edu internetline). The other PC is connected to the same router that the first PC is connected on. The router, in turn, is connected to its own ethernet line (another edu internet line with diff IP than the one connected to the first computer.).
The reason I have it set up this way is because I wanted each of the PC's internet line to be indepnedent of each other at the same time be able to share files across a small "home" network. My first problem was, the first PC always conencted to the same line as the router (which connects to the other PC), so they are always interent sharing. I fixed this by disabling ports in the router to not allow the first PC to access the net. So finally the first PC uses its own separate line. The 2 PCs are now able to share files from within the small "home network".
The problem I have now is the first PC keeps dropping its internet connection. I know this when I try accessing some webpages it doesnt load, plus Yahoo messenger signs out and cant sign back in. It does this quite frequently. It almost seems like there is some kind of traffic jam, hehe , so to speak... like a bottleneck issue. I dunno if that is the case... obviously i am not a pro at networking.
I would really appreaciate it if some could help me with this issue. Lets suppose I am running a server with 5 NIC cards each with its own internet connection and its own small network, how would I set that up?
Are there any software to supplement or replace the whole windows networking?
Thanks !!!
