new idiot
hiya i am wondering if someone can help me plz - as i am extremely stupid - my laptop will not go online anymore, it was previously working through a router (with no problems) then for no apparent reason it stopped- after over an hour on the phone to my isp we discovered it has a static ip (obtain ip automatically is checked) and it will not go online now through the router or even directly into the cable modem - my isp says its a problem on the laptop - does anyone know any solutions?
its definately not a problem with cables or the modem as i have checked both with my desktop pc and they work fine, my os on the laptop is windows 98 plz help a confused idiot |

your gateway will be the lan side of the router.your router will have two ips....the wan side which it got from cable modem....and the lan side of the router which is usually something like 192.168.0.1.....(you should change the routers ip from something other than the default ip.).so for the laptop go into the tcp/ip properties and put the gateway(router ip) in
