Now I can't share files.

Hi again everyone, thanks to edwinbrains I got my internet connection to be shared, but my XP box is not playing nicely with my 2000 box. XP is the host and I shared everything and I did the same for 2000. When I check out the computers on my network on the XP box it shows both computers but I can't access the 2000 box, it says "\\2000 is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permission. The network path was not found." On the 2000 box and can not access the workgroup is tells me I do not have permission. But I set it so that I could have permission...Any suggestions. Thanks again.

untruehero.....

I hate when that happens. Edwin mentioned in my post that it has to do with passwords and here is what he wrote to address the same problem I still have.

For the permissions issue, try making sure that you are using both computers with accounts which have exactly the same username and password. I presume that if you've got this far that you can now ping the other computer?

When I upgraded from W2K to XP Pro, my network connection went down and I reaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaallly need it back for my work.....I hate bill stuff.

I hope you resolve yours soon,

Ray

This sounds more like a communication problem to me. Try the password thing like I told Ray (use accounts with exactly the same username and password on both machines), but I'd first check to see if you can ping the other computer. If you can, then we'll check other settings, but if you can't, then there's some sort of communication problem. The reason I think it's more likely to be a communcation problem is that the error message says "The network path was not found". I think it says something like "Access Denied" if it's a permission problem.
