Packet sent but not received

Dear,
Actullay i have installed window 2008 server enterprise edition on VMWare workstation 7.0 for testing purpose. I want to use a static ip address for this virtual machine. When i assign the IP address (192.168.0.1) to my virtual computer, ping response sucessfully while network card show packets send but not received.
This is fresh installation of win 2008 server. now i have not installed any dns or dhcp server on this machine.
please guide me how my static ip address sucessfully packet sent and received.

192.168.0.1 is the default IP for many routers and other devices, you should pick some other IP in that range.

And in vmware you must set networking to be bridged if you want your vm to be reachable from other computers on your LAN. If VMWare works like other virtual machine hosts, the guest network will be on an isolated subnet with NAT access to the outside.
