Will this PC be directly connected to the Internet? I would suggest you use a *nix platform due to the availability of tools and support. Will this machine also act as your firewall?

Yes, the pc will be directly connected to the internet, but due to the ISP i fear that im unable to use a unix plataform, most surely could be win2000 or win2003 server, any sugestion and details in how can i do that?

The ISP has nothing do due with the OS you chose to use. But if you are more comfortable with Windows then here are two options:
1) Set up the computer with two network cards. One for the internet and one for the internal network. Ensure that the server is a DHCP server.
2) Using Windows XP you share use the internal internet connection sharing wizard.

what is the second network card for? the first is for connecting directly to the internet, and i guess the second one is for connecting it to the switch or hub, but how do i configure the pc as a router with the share connection wizard?
well, i mentioned that because the ISP was necesary to have windowz, well i was refering to that the ISP have and installation CD that works just for windows.
The network admin where i want to install this have no enough knowlegde to use linux, either me, but that's not a problem for me, i can deal with it, i can learn at the moment.

you will need to install the dhcp service for the windows server. then you will need to create an ip range/ subnet, workgroup and attach this nic/computer to ahub that the other computers can access.
