Hi! newbie here!
i am trying to connect my notebook (XP) to my desktop(XP). the problem is, on my notebook, my network card is detected, but whenever i tried to ping it (without network cable attached), it always returns "media disconnected". i have set up the ipadd from the LAN connection properties (192.168.0.2/255.255.255.0). The same thing also happen to my desktop. Is pinging own network card cannot be done without the cable attached? (AFAIK : it could be done ??) or is there anything else that i forgot to do ? thanks wilo |

How are you connecting your two computers? If you're connecting them directly, make sure that you're using a crossover cable rather than a standard patch (straight-through cable).
But you won't be able to ping your own network card until you get a media connected message. |

you have to connect a cable to the NIC to bring it up or you will not be able to ping it.
