Ping tool needed.....
Good morning chaps.
I work for a company with multiple sattelite sites and would like to be notifies by the system when a branch drops off the network. I have seen this in action at other companies but i do not know how to get it up and running. I can only presume that a program or script sends a ping every 10 or 20 seconds to all branch routers and when a "no reply" is recieved the program / script gives an on screen "winpop" message stating branch name and IP address. I want this program to run in the background from a server if possible. Hopefully a WIN2k box. Comments and suggestions more than welcome Thanks Richard |

This technique will work for you. You could write this in Java and have the process `kick off` every fifteen minutes or so. If the you do not receive a `heartbeat` retry and if still no pulse send alert an operator.
