Please help with networking XP Pro.
I work at a high school, we had 18 PC's running on a network all using windows 98.
I upgraded the server to Windows XP Pro. but now i can only get nine PC's to log on to the network at a time, they all log on seperately, just no more than nine at a time! Windows is full of Sh*t when i try to log more than nine on, one of the PC's said that the server will not allow it to log on as it had reached it's maximum number of connections. Is there something i missed when setting up the network? XP only has 'set up a home or SMALL office network. please help, urgent, classes are being rejected as there aren't enough PC's for everyone! |

I'm not sure, but I think that there may be a limit to the number of connections a Windows XP Pro computer can handle. I think this is probably 10 (9 clients + the one local user).

I'm not sure either (what the limit is, or if there is one), but the first thing I would ask you is if you upgraded your server to XP Pro, what was it before, and did you have trouble then, too? You do realize that XP is not a server OS?

If it worked with 98, there is probably no limit? Could you not go back to this? Otherwise, why not try a server OS, like Windows Server 2000, or 2003. Alternatively, some distributions of Linux would probably work OK. HTH, Edwin |
