printing over the internet
Printing over the internet...
Hi.. I have such a tough request from management- printing over internet. I feel it is quite complex, please help me!! Case 1) From company A (with firewall, allow all out, no in), I want to print a document to a printer in company B over the internet (without the VPN connection). (The printer in company B is assigned with a public IP without a firewall protected) Should I do this-> From the PC in company A, add a local printer with TCP/IP port and type in the remote printer IP and install the remote printer driver then start to print ?? Will it work? Case 2) From company B (without firewall) I want print a document to a printer in company A (with firewall, allow all out, no in) over the internet without VPN. The printer in company A is assigned with a internal IP and NAT to a public IP) Should I do the same as case 1, (add a local printer with TCP/IP port and type in the remote printer IP in company A) except I need to open some firewall port to allow printing traffic to come in via company A's firewall from company B. May I know what port I need to open ??? Case 3) From company B (without firewall) I want print a document to a printer in company A (with firewall, allow all out, no in) over the internet without VPN. The difference here from case 2 is the printer in company A is attached to a print server and the print server is assigned with a internal IP and NAT to a public IP). Can I still add a network printer via the internet?? I don't think I can brower the printer on the printer there right? Any idea how to make this work? |

What operating system are your servers? or do your printers support IPP (internet printing protocol)? This is very easy to do with novell netware 6 running apache web server and NDPS. Basicly look into enabling IPP for secure printing over the internet.

Hi.. Junniper, my operating system is windows 2000. I confirmed that my remote printer is attached to a print server and a public IP of 200.200.200.200 (for example)
How do I print to there? Must the Server 2000 installed with IIS?? I saw a internet printing URL prompt in window? should I use that?? what is the format like?? Urgent help needed.. others' input are welcome |
