problems connecting XP to 2000 workgroup
My office has a workgroup w/ 2000 server. XP, 98 & 2000 desktops are all able to access the server and login in order to share a printer. There is one XP machine, however, that is unable to access the server. This machine appears to see the workgroup but before the user is prompted for username/pwd an error appears saying that the network resource is not available and that the machine does not have permission to access the server.
Any ideas as to what settings are not configed properly on either the XP machine or the 2000 server? Thanks! Berit |

If you say that you have other 2k, xp, and 98 boxes that all access the server properly, then there is nothing wrong with the server. Rule it out. Focus on the rogue XP box. Check TCP/IP settings, make sure file and printer sharing client is installed, check the XP firewall to see if it is on or not.
I would start with the firewall. If it is on, turn it off. |

Be sure the username and password that the XP machine is logged in with matches the one on the server.
