putting two 2000 servers together
I have a lab set in my basement that are running two 2000 server systems. One of them are hooked up wirelessly to my upstairs router to get out to the internet. The other one shares an internet access on one of the two NICS on the other. Of the five computers in my small network 4 of the 5 can see each other and access shared folders using FQDN. The one that is hard wired to the other 2000 cannot. This one can get to the net but when trying to access shares I must use IP addresses. Also none of the others can access this one at all. What do I need to do to get them all to sing a song together??? Please Help

Hmm... not a pro at this... but is the one that is pissing you off on the same "network"? (MSHOME or WORKGROUP or whatever...) And does that computer have file sharing enabled? Type nbtstat -A xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx... Where xxx... is the IP of that computer of course... If you see a <20> in there it's enabled, of not then you need to configure it for home networking.

make sure the computer browser service is enabled on the problem pc.
You never mention if the server which is directly connect to this problem pc has the same issues as the others. If it does I would look at the pc's configuration. |
