Quick VPN Question

Hello, I have the Netgear FVS318 Firewall router with VPN, and I was wondering if you need another FVS318 router to connect the VPN network, or if it is possible to connect to te netgear router with a non VPN router. I know that the client software is an option, however that costs money.

- Cheers!

it has to be a VPN router or VPN client on workstation standard routers do not support encryption ie IPSEC IKE blah blah...

here is how to configure your router to multiple vendors.....

Ok, that link was very helpful, however the information inside of that link is primarily for 2 static IP address's, I was curious as to if the same connection is still possible with 2 dynamic IP address's, the IP address at work, which has the Netgear FVS318 router VPN compliant is a static dynamic IP address which does change, but very rarely, and the Home pc which is also behind a VPN router has a daily changing IP address, is there a way to get around this, does the router have its own unique IP address.

I only know how to configure a PIX and VPN concentrator to use dynamic addresses and change its config (crypto maps and ACLs) dynamicly without user intervention for the VPN, I dont think the netgear has this ability. I may be wrong though.

I have not used NetGear routers before, however, this solution may help. You could use a service, such as NoIP, to resolve your dynamic IP addresses to a hostname. Then in the VPN client software, replace the IP address with the dynamic hostnames instead. However, this will only work if you can put a hostname in. If you are required to actually specify an IP address, then this will be of no help, and you will have to change the settings of the VPN each time your dynamic IP address changes.
