Really Weird Problem
I'm having router trouble. I have several PC's connected to a Belkin wireless router 3 hardwired and 2 802.11b. The router is connected to my cable modem. So far, so good. All works well.
I have several of my own websites hosted through 1and1.com. Tuesday night, I couldn't connect to my sites. Everyone elses site, just not mine. I thought my server was down. I logged on through AOL (via the same router and cable modem) and the site was working just fine. Back to internet explorer - can't reach my site. Try to FTP - through cute ftp, no good. I take the router out of the equation. Plug the computer directly into the cable modem. Now it works fine. Connect to my site, ftp to my site etc. I figure something is wrong with the router (all of a sudden???) but heck, they are cheap enough, I go buy another one. I set that one up and everything is working fine. I do lots of ftp'ing sending files to my host setting up this new site. After several hours, the same problem develops. Can't connect to my site, this time with a new router. I take the router of the equation, go straight to the cable modem, no problem, everything works, put the router back in, my sites either don't load or hang up (hitting refreash several times helps). This behavior is on all of my PC's (even my handheld) so I doubt it's a software issue on all of the PC's (they are all set up differently.) My cabel company says if it works without the router, they can't help. The router people (Belkin) haven't a clue. I'm really not sure what to do. (I tried it with a netgear router - same issue) If I access my site through AOL (they use their own dns and port) even through the router - it's no problem. What can I do???? Please help! Thanks Ed |

Do you have any Win2K (or NT or 2K3) servers running on your network?

I had an identical problem due to the "serving" machine having a static IP and the rest using DHCP. Once I assigned all the internal machines a static IP they played together much better with the router in place.
Try that or adding your local server IP to your Host files on the non-server machine. BTW, I was using an Cayman router (SBC w/ 5 static IP's) & SMC Wireless router

Any luck diagnosing your problem?
Ed,
I have EXACTLY the same problem, but with a DSL hookup and a different router. Have you been able to find out any more about this problem? Gary |
