Remote Desktop Web Connection
Hi,
Any idea if I wanna remote to my Win3k server using a laptop which it doesn't belongs to the domain using the remote desktop web connection. Can we do that? Or do we need to set up VPN for it in order to get it working? |

I guess your wording may be in question here what do you meen by domain a member of the microsoft domain or in a different LAN? if your laptop is on the same network and is not a member of the domain you should still be able to remote desktop to it. if it is not in the same network then the firewall will need opened ( this is if you are secure ie lan to lan ) if through the internet then yes use a vpn or citrix for security reasons.

Remote desktop connection uses port 3389 - so this is the port you'll need to open on the firewall.
If the laptop is on the same internal network, just not joined to the domain itself, setting the workgroup to the same name as the domain should allow you to connect. For example, if the domain name is domain.com, set the workgroup on the laptop to domain. |
