Unhappy Router & DC, Connectivity Problems

Hi, this is my first post here on Dev Shed and I'm basicaly a n00b to all these fancy high tech networking stuff. So here goes, my problem is that I have the office network running on a Domain, the Domain Controller is running on Win2k Server. However, with the introduction of a ADSL Modem/Router (Aztech 305EU), I have to set the default gateway and Primary DNS to the modem in order for the PCs in the network to have internet access.

This brings me to the problem of running SUS on the DC. If I'm correct, SUS will work only if the client PCs have the DC as the Primary DNS. So now, I have configured the client PCs to the Router's setting for internet access and I'm suspecting that all this while the client PCs have been bypassing the SUS server and getting updates from the internet. I've tried playing with routing the IPs but I think I'm not getting it right so far. So is there a way for my client PCs to have internet access while using the DC as the primary gateway?

Thanks.

if you have a 2000 domain controller you are running DNS services so point all of your PCs DNS to your server as primary and in your DNS server you should have a forwarder setup to you ISPs DNS server. what this does is when a PC looks for domain DNS it finds it from your server when it looks for internet name resolution your server will forward the request to the ISPs DNS server because it couldnt resolve the name. without the forwarder (default) it will resolve internet name from root hint servers which is a waiste of time.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction! I've been going in circles in the Routing and Remote Access configs.

Apparently the Forward and Reverse DNS was in a mess, I cleaned it up abit and added a Route Through setting based on the router and now it works! Thanks alot!
