Router Problem
Hello, Im having a realy wierd problem with my router or computer. When im behind the router i can get on the internet fine but when i get off the router i cant get on the internet. Some times i need to get off the router to transfer files to people over the internet but just recently i havent been able to get on the internet through a direct connection between my computer and the cable modem. Can anyone help me? Thanks

When you connect directly to the modem, are you making the necessary changes in the settings for the NIC. If you've set the IP address etc manually, then you'll need to change this as it will be different.

i went into the routers control panel and it doesnt say that setting up IP Address manualy. But i do believe that is the problem. Could it be that my network settings on my computer is causing it to set up the Ip address different from what its supposed to be? If so how can i change it back to get IP automaticaly?

On the router there should be an option to enable DHCP somewhere. Make sure that this is enabled, then configure your NIC to obtain its IP settings automatically. Then check that the computer can communicate with the router.
