Seperating "workstation" and CPU

I would like to put the keyboard, video and mouse in a different area than the CPU. I don't need a KVM switch, since VNC works just fine for me, but I would like them to be in two different rooms. I know there are dongles that convert the KVM signal to ethernet which works with the ip based KVM routers, but I don't need those capabilities. I also don't think it would be cost effective or smart to run long lines with regular KVM lines since that would probably be a great amount of signal degredation. I am wondering if you are able to use the dongle to convert the KVM to ethernet, and then back again using a dongle on the other end. If so, are there dongles that support audio as well?

Thanks for all your help!

Your request makes no sense. If vnc is fine for you then why a kvm? if you don't want to use extenders or a kvm switch why don't you move the pc? IP kvm switches are more expensive then regular kvm switches.

Maybe I put too much information there...I want to be able to seperate my monitor, keyboard and mouse from the main cpu, I don't need to control multiple ones, there will be just one "workstation" for each cpu, thus I don't need a KVM switch. I just wanted to know what the best way to send the signal would be, since obviously I can't use vnc without a cpu to connect to the "main cpu". I just want to seperate the cpu and the monitor, keyboard and mouse in two seperate rooms to save room. Is this possible?

Sure thats possible. All depends on the length. I have a training room that has a 45 foot video cable. I would do a web search for cable extenders and see what is available. If you have a long distance you can always put a KVM in the middle to amplify the signal

Are there signal amplifiers that are inline, I need to run keyboard video and mouse through the wall, and burying a KVM in the wall doesn't seem like too good of an options I don't know what to do. I was wondering if those dongle converters that converts the KVM to ethernet for kvm over ip solutions, will convert it back again. Thus I run the signal through the ethernet rather than trying to run KVM cables through the walls.
