Angry Server 2003 can't browse on low security

Hello
I just installed Server 2003 and i am unable to surf the internet . I uninstalled the default security that prevents you from browsing but i still cannot browse.
The problem, i believe, is with the dhcp. I do not get a IP address, i get the 192.x.x.x
I am running my server off of a linksys router thru a cable modem

I know that the internet connection is there because if i unplug the cable, i get a message saying that the LAN has been disconnected . it is not a problem with the router because the same thing happens if i connect directly to the modem.

If anyonw can offer any help or advise on what to look for or what to do to pinpoint the probelm, if would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Steph

From admin. tools > services

"dhcp client" must be Auto
click property and its dependency must be Auto.

However, read your provider's page well first.

i did set the dchp server to auto and still the browser does not work.

But i"ve noticed the Ip address has changed... it is something like 169.x.x.x

i know it is the windows default ip when the computer does not receive an ip address but i do not know how to go about to try and solve this problem

any help would be grateful

If it's getting an address like that, then it can't find the DHCP server. Check that the DHCP server on the router is enabled and that your computer is set to automatically obtain it's IP details. Also check that the connection between your computer and router is correct (good cabling, right type of cables etc.)

Unhappy all that is done... :(

the dchp server on the route is enabled. i have 2 other copmuters working fine browsing the internet and all that...

my computer is set to automatically receive an ip (lan properties -> tcp/ip -> receive automatic ip)

the cablind is good because it konw that it get plugged and unplugged and last week on XP i was connecting to the internet without a problem!

i really have no idea why my copmuter doesn't want to connect to the router. and even if i plug it right into the modem, it still doesn't work

Perhaps you should remove the network card, reinstall TCP/IP and then start again.
