server 2003 Dhcp server wont bind to required IP

As u may have remembered, i was trying to connect ADSL modem router to win2003 server thru one NIC and have another NIC deal out IPs to the LAN.

Now i find that the win2003 DHCP server wont bind to the IP that i want, i delete it re authorise it but it keep resetting to the IP address given out to the win2003 server by the modem DHCP .

how do i bind the IP to the DHCP server thanks???

I'm not sure if this will help, but make sure that you've got a static IP address on the LAN connection and in Network Connections click Advanced, Advanced Settings and make sure that in the Connections section the LAN connection is above the one which connects to the modem.

You have to disable the DHCP server on your router or use a static IP address for that NIC as Edwin has said. Disabling DHCP on the router does not disable NAT as some people might think. The router with the DHCP enabled will always make the the ip lease first, because you connect to it first, its not just a switch/hub. Hope this helps

Ok, let's start from the beginning. Firstly, open up Network Connections and click Advanced from the menu bar. Then select Advanced Settings. This option should definitely be there because I've checked on a Windows 2003 computer. Make sure that the connection to the network is above the one to the modem.

Then, for the network connection, assign a static IP address (probably 192.168.0.1) and a subnet of 255.255.255.0. Leave the default gateway blank.

Then, for the connection to the modem either assign a static IP address or leave it to obtain automatically. I've got a very similar situation, and I can leave this connection to use the DHCP server on the modem. Then, make sure that Internet Connection Sharing is enabled on this connection.

Before doing anything else, check that this setup works as expected and you can access the computer from the network and access the Internet. Finally, re-install DHCP and create a new scope on the 192.168.0.x subnet. Activate the scope and authorise the server and it should work. I've got a very similar situation here, and it works no problems.

btw, modem dhcp is issuing 192.168.0.x, if win2003 is using the same range, maybe i should change??

You'll find the Advanced option at the top, to the left of the File, Edit menu options. When you click that you'll see the Advanced Settings option.

I think it'd be a good idea to get the modem on a different subnet - try 10.0.0.x. Then, only use the 192.168.0.x subnet on your local network.

I'm still not sure you're checking in the correct places. I've attached a screenshot as to where you need to go to, to find the option. Use screenshot 1 to find where the option should be. Then you should get a window similar to screenshot 2.

ok more problems lol.

modem DHCP is now in control of range 10.0.0.x

it gives the win2003 an IP

BUT the server cant locate the 10.0.0.1 to access the modem control panel, and so no internet

funny thing though a winxp client can access the modem and the net !!

arghghg lol

PS. ok i had to list 10.0.0.1 as a intranet site

Trust me - it's there. I've just checked on Windows Server 2003 and I can access the options fine. Open up Network Connections from the Control Panel, and then select Advanced, Advanced Settings from the menu bar.

If you've set the modem to 10.0.0.x make sure that the interface connected to the modem on the the computer is correctly getting an IP address from the modem. Also check that you can ping the modem.

And I'm not sure about this Win XP client. Let's get the server setup correctly first.

I think it may also be good for me to see an ipconfig. Click Start, Run and type "ipconfig /all > C:\ipconfig.txt" (without the quotes). A black screen will flash then disappear. Copy the contents from the ipconfig.txt file into your next post.
