server 2003 file sharing over the internet
I have a fileserver for the office, here, with windows 2003 server and I want my co-workers and myself to be able to access the files from home and on the road over the internet.
I've been playing with all the settings and can't seem to figure out how to get it working. I have a netgear router with ports 137-139, 445, and 3389 enabled (I'm also trying to be able to use a remoteDesktop connection). What could I be doing wrong? Thanks. |

What could you be doing wrong? Oh I don't know perhaps setting your new server up to be HACKED ! Hey why not just unblock all ports ie. put the server in the DMZ zone of the router. Get another ip address from your ISP for this server and your folks from home won't have any issues connecting.
Or perhaps if security and not having to daily rebuild the server are things you're interested in perhaps this will lead you to the correct path http://www.microsoft.com/windowsser...pn/default.mspx Creating VPNs will protect your home users and your server/network. Always be security aware. It's the difference between being operational or not. Best of luck! |
