Setting up WLAN

I want to set up a wireless netwrok between two desktop PC's. One of them has a pci wireless lan adapter card installed on it and the other is connected to a wireless router ( Netgear WGT624v2) via an ethernet cable. The shipped software proved to be fruitless as the whole process seemed to require that I had a cable or dsl modem which I don't. I currently just want to set up WLAN and be able to share files and play games via IP. So i tried to set it up in My Network Places. I clicked on set up home network and went through the neccessary procedures and then made a netwrok disk and used this on the other PC. The other PC found and connected to a wireless netwrok under the name that I had assigned it to but I was unable to share the files and under the workgroup could only find the computer that I was currently working on in bith cases. I tried this on both PCs.Is there anything I might have missed when I set up the network or router?

The router should have DHCP enabled. Check to see that this is the case. Once you've checked, make sure that both computers are set to automatically obtain IP settings from a DHCP server. This means that the computers should be configured automatically by the router and the network should work fine.
