Is it possible to connect 2(+) wi-fi ready ibooks without a router and still share files and an internet connection?
(running mac 10.2.1.. cable modem net connection.. ) |

This should be possible. You'll want to use an ad-hoc mode on the wi-fi cards. Make sure that the cable modem is connected into one of the computers and configured correctly for sharing.
